Located on the western border of the Tampa-St. Petersburg Metropolitan Area, the city of Spring Hill is one of the fastest-growing communities in Florida. Part of Florida's Nature Coast along the Ochlockonee Bay, Spring Hill has everything a lively, welcoming small town has to offer with all of the amenities of a large city nearby. According to information from the U.S. Census Bureau, this growing city has a population of more than 98,000 residents, so it is easy to see why Spring Hill apartments for rent are such a popular commodity in the area.
Living in Spring Hill, FL
Like many other cities in Central Florida, the history of Spring Hill can be traced back to the habitation of Seminole Native Americans in Hernando County. It wasn't until 1539 when conquistador Hernando de Soto came into the area that the communities along the bay began to develop. Mentions of the city of Spring Hill started around 1840 and 1842, and the city first appeared on the maps in 1856.
Hernando County was named Benton County until 1850 when area officials decided to name the county in honor of Spring Hills' original founder so many years ago. A subject of great local debate, many residents in the area believe that since the area appeared on maps in the mid 19th century, Spring Hill is actually much older than the history books would have us believe. However, the city's official incorporation did not occur until 1967.
Considered a "bedroom community," Spring Hill was a development organized by the Deltona Corporation to provide suburban housing for the sprawling Tampa-St. Petersburg area in the early 1960s. Today, the city is a census-designated town, which means that it lacks a central government like a city council or mayor, but it still has its own businesses and is recognized by the census.
Spring Hill Work and Study
According to the Hernando County Economic Overview, some of the principal employers in the area include the Walmart Distribution Center, Oak Hill Hospital, Southwest Florida Water Management District and Sparton Electronics. The top industries in the area include real estate, finance and insurance, science and technology and management. Whether you are working in the neighborhood or traveling to Tampa for work, finding Spring Hill apartments near Commercial Way, Cortez Boulevard and Suncoast Parkway are good idea to cut back on your commute time.
Many students in the area frequent Pasco-Hernando Community College. One of the newest institutions of higher learning to hit the area, this school provides state-of-the-art facilities with a focus on innovative teaching at an affordable price. There are more than 30 fields of study available in 2-year degrees and certifications.
Rentals in Spring Hill, FL and Cost of Living
