Located in Seminole County, Fla., Winter Springs is less than 30 minutes from the gorgeous beaches of Florida and some of the world’s best theme park attractions. After the United States acquired Florida in 1821, the land that now makes up the area of Winter Springs was bought by a merchant from New York, Moses Levy. At the turn of the century, the nearby town of Clifton Springs was as far south as steamboats could travel. Therefore, wagons had to haul people and goods to the south cities. However, the businesses along the St. John’s River helped needed better ways to transport, which encouraged the development of industry. In 1872, lumber and logging ventures, turpentine stills, and sawmills were built up in the area. During the same time, railroads extended to the area, cattle became a vital source of the economy and orange groves were planted.

By 1959, the area was incorporated as North Orlando and no more than 600 residents lived in the area. During this time, the development of the Central Florida region aided in the growth of Winter Springs. As the aerospace and defense industries began to prosper, the high quality of life and suburban style of living caused Winter Springs to become one of the premiere destinations in Florida. By 1972, the city changed its name to Winter Springs, and the town center was built to mimic the old town Florida feel. The Winter Springs Town Center opened in 2002 and is a mixed-use space of offices, residential areas and commercial developments.

The diverse business climate in Seminole County gives residents the opportunity to find employment in many different industries. Some of the top employers include Convergys, Florida Hospital, Chase Bankcard Services, Orlando Regional Healthcare, American Automobile Association and Try City Electrical Contractors.
