Living in Downtown Atlanta

Like many city centers around the country, Downtown Atlanta has become an increasingly popular place for the young and hip to call home. All sorts head here to achieve their dreams. If bright lights and big city sound good to you, maybe you’ll be happy renting a place in the center of the Big Peach.

Before it was Atlanta, the Downtown area was a town called Terminus; it was where the railroad completed its journey from the northern states. In the 1840s, a new name suggestion—“Atlantica-Pacifica”—was shortened to Atlanta, and so the city was christened. What citizens built here over the following twenty years, General Sherman ordered burned to the ground during the Civil War. Downtown Atlanta rebuilt from the ashes. By the 1920s, a central business district had formed. Today, this neighborhood serves as the center of the New South.
