Living in North Buckhead
North Buckhead apartments bridge the distance between glitzy-ritzy downtown style and secluded suburban serenity. This north-most neighborhood of Atlanta is more than first glance might reveal. Most will immediately notice its upscale malls, shining skyscrapers, and evening entertainment options. It’s only on closer inspection, however, that one finds that much of North Buckhead is heavily wooded hills and high-end homes. Talk about the best of both worlds!
North Buckhead became part of Atlanta in 1950. It quickly developed as a suburb, housing those escaping the city. Before that time, this part of Georgia was rural. Not much of the history of the area is known. Today, North Buckhead is an affluent part of Atlanta. Residents enjoy plenty of conveniences, but say the area is a little light on personality.
North Buckhead Lifestyle and Entertainment
Shopping here can be an expensive affair. There are high-end malls with shops like Lord and Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue on the south end of North Buckhead. Phipps Plaza, Lenox Square, and other shopping centers line busy Peachtree Road. Here you’ll also find cinemas, restaurants, bars, and clubs. It’s a bit of an entertainment mecca and many city residents come this way when seeking an evening out.
In the quieter parts of North Buckhead, you’ll find a few welcoming outdoor areas, such as Little Nancy Creek Park and Emma Lane Park. The Blue Heron Nature Preserve has wooded trails and a waterway big enough for a canoe if it has rained recently.
North Buckhead Info and the Rental Market
In the Peachtree Road area, rental options come in the high-rise condo and luxury apartment varieties. The average two-bedroom apartment in North Buckhead rents for $2,093 a month. If you’re commuting from North Buckhead, the Georgia 400 freeway cuts through the neighborhood. MARTA trains stop at Buckhead Station and there are a few bus routes that ply the edges of the area as well.

The Buckhead branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System is the closest to North Buckhead. There are United States Post Offices both on Roswell Road and in the Buckhead Station Shopping Center. North Buckhead is in Atlanta City Council District 7. The North Buckhead Civic Association oversees neighborhood matters.
