Living in Ormewood Park
Ormewood Park apartments are on the way up. Not that this part of Atlanta hasn’t been a popular place to build for over a century! You can see that just by checking out the wide range of housing styles available for rent in the area. Ormewood Park is a mostly residential, family-friendly neighborhood with a couple of quiet commercial centers. The vibe is calm, but people don’t feel isolated. This part of town nests between hip East Atlanta and engaging Grant Park. How’s that for southern charm?
In the beginning of the last century, Aquilla Orme approved extending the trolley to this area. It’s his moniker that provides the basis for the neighborhood’s name. Victorian homes were built here in the early days. After the Great War, a construction boom brought Craftsman and other types of houses. Ormewood Park was annexed by Atlanta in 1922. Housing continued to be built in waves throughout the century. That continues today, with new modern, chic lofts and more.
Ormewood Park Lifestyle and Entertainment
The northwest corner of Ormewood Park, called Glenwood Park, is where you’ll find a collection of retail shops and eateries. There are also plenty of dining spots along Moreland Avenue. If you want other options, check out the hipster haunts in neighboring East Atlanta. Glenwood Park is Ormewood Park’s green space. It’s got a peaceful pond and a public pool.
Ormewood Park Info and the Rental Market
There’s a broad range of housing types available in Ormewood Park. You can find everything from hundred-year-old Victorians to 1960’s brick ranch homes to modern apartments and townhomes. This is a good area for families, although main streets may occasionally attract some unsavory elements. The average rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Ormewood Park is $1,235 a month.
Ormewood Park isn’t excellent for those depending on public transit. There are a couple of bus routes through here, but no nearby MARTA station. Interstate 20 forms the northern border of Ormewood Park.

The East Atlanta branch of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System is the closest, on Flat Shoals Avenue. You’ll find a United States Post Office on Metropolitan Avenue, in East Atlanta. Ormewood Park falls between Atlanta City Council districts 1 and 5.
