Virginia Highland was developed in the early 1900s after the streetcars started running. As its name suggests, its center is the intersection of Virginia and Highland avenues. The neighborhood saw a decline in the ‘60s. That’s when some of the apartments here went up. In the ‘90s, Virginia Highland became one of Atlanta’s most popular neighborhoods for living the good life.

There’s a wealth of things to do in Virginia Highland. You’ll have your choice of sidewalk cafés, cocktail bars, eclectic restaurants, nightclubs with live music, art galleries, and coffeehouses. Shopping options include trendy clothing boutiques, antique stores, salons, and spas. If you’re looking for a less quaint retail experience, there are two strip malls on the neighborhood’s western border. Go there to hit Home Depot or Whole Foods.

If you want to enjoy some of the outdoors, Piedmont Park forms the neighborhood’s northwestern edge. There are also a few small green spaces within the community. These include John Howell Memorial and Orme parks.
