The city was a leader in education, and students from across the county came into town to attend Buford High School.

Buford Work and Study

Some residents in Buford choose to further their education just a few miles away in Lawrenceville. Gwinnett Technical College, located in the western part of Lawrenceville, offers pupils the opportunity to receive a higher education and obtain an associate degree. Students can also enroll at Gainesville State College, which is located in neighboring Oakwood. The university allows thousands of students to begin their coursework in a variety of fields. The university offers the option for pupils to gain an associate degree, transfer credits to a four-year institution, or even earn a bachelor's degree in select fields.

Buford is home to a large number of entrepreneurs, and its long history of being a business-friendly city has not wavered. Some of the largest employers in the county include Gwinnett County Public Schools, Gwinnett County government, Gwinnett Health Systems, Publix Supermarkets, Wal-Mart and the State of Georgia.
