Many settlers remained in the area, though, and used the land for farming. Dallas became the county seat of Paulding County in 1851, and was named after George Mifflin Dallas, who was vice president under President James Polk. The city was incorporated in 1854. In 1865, Dallas became a significant part of American history when a Civil War battle took place in the town after the Union attempted to overtake the county.

The city has several healthcare facilities, and the award-winning WellStar Paulding Hospital is easily within reach. There are numerous county parks and children attend the Paulding County School District, which combines rigorous academics with hand-on, technical learning.
