Living in Dallas, GA
Paulding County was created in 1832 and was separated into forty-acre "gold lots." People came from all over to seek gold, but most were not successful. Many settlers remained in the area, though, and used the land for farming. Dallas became the county seat of Paulding County in 1851, and was named after George Mifflin Dallas, who was vice president under President James Polk. The city was incorporated in 1854. In 1865, Dallas became a significant part of American history when a Civil War battle took place in the town after the Union attempted to overtake the county.
Today, Dallas has remained a relatively small town and has managed to preserve its Southern feel. The city has several healthcare facilities, and the award-winning WellStar Paulding Hospital is easily within reach. There are numerous county parks and children attend the Paulding County School District, which combines rigorous academics with hand-on, technical learning.
Dallas Attractions and Special Events
Dallas residents see a wide variety of concerts and shows at the historic Dallas Theater. The performing arts facility was constructed in 2004 with state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. Residents can take advantage of the SIlver Comet Trail for prime outdoor recreation. The trail was originally the pathway of a railroad that ran through the county, but today, it's a perfect spot for hiking, biking, rollerblading, dog walking and horseback riding.
