Overview of East Point

Located in Fulton County, Georgia, East Point is a city considered by many as a suburb of Atlanta due to its close proximity. Situated just five to 10 minutes southwest, it features a nice mix of locals who commute to jobs in Atlanta and those who work in East Point. Best known for its recreation attractions, you'll find that you can easily stay in shape when you rent an apartment here.

Living in East Point

A handful of people lived in East Point during the late 1800s, but the city had its first real boom at the turn of the century. Named for its location on the local railroad, the city saw new manufacturers moving into the city and bringing new residents with them. Officially chartered in the late 1880s, its population continued growing as the city expanded its limits.

New businesses and attractions led to the city expanded significantly in the modern era. Nearly 34,000 people now live, work and rent in the neighborhoods.

Sports and recreation activities are popular with locals. If you love running and jogging, consider joining other apartment renters who live in the neighborhood surrounding the Dick Lane Veldrome. Built in the 1970s, dozens of Olympic athletes trained here over the years. You can walk, jog or bike the long trail. The Velodrome also offers different programs for kids. Grayson Field, Jefferson Park and other parks offer different amenities for the whole family, including playgrounds, walking trails and picnic areas.

If your idea of fun involves shopping rather than exercise, visit the Camp Creek Marketplace. Billed as one of the top places to shop in Georgia, the marketplace is home to more than 100 shops and restaurants, including Target and TJ Maxx. It is also conveniently located near a large movie theater with multiple screens, which was a first for this area.

Get out of East Point and enjoy spending some time at the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta. You can sample drinks from around the world, see exhibits dedicate to the history of the beverage and bring home some souvenirs. Locals like yourself can also stop by the 4-D theater to view a show about the company and view a gallery devoted to pop culture.

Also in nearby Atlanta is Centennial Olympic Park, which hosted the 1996 Olympics. Apartment renters and homeowners living in the surrounding neighborhoods helped restore and save the park. The Fountain of Rings played an important role in the Olympic ceremony from that year, and you can now play in the fountain yourself.

Thanks to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, you're only minutes away from a city bus. Use those buses to reach any neighborhood or suburb located around Atlanta or to destinations in the city from your apartment. As the city highways are notorious for traffic jams and delays, many prefer using the city buses.
