Overview of Johns Creek

Sitting along the banks of the Chattahoochee River, Johns Creek is one of the Atlanta area’s newest cities - and also one of its most popular. With great outdoor resources and a tech-friendly environment just minutes from the region’s urban conveniences, it’s not hard to see why.

People looking for apartments for rent in Johns Creek will enjoy the city’s great opportunities for fishing, golfing, kayaking and more.

Living in Johns Creek, GA

While it was only officially incorporated in 2006, the Johns Creek area has a long history as the former home to the Cherokee Nation, as well as part of the nation’s first Gold Rush. The gold rush, however, was one of the primary forces behind the forced removal of many First Nation residents on what is known today as the "Trail of Tears." Largely undeveloped for many years, the area took off in 1981 with the establishment of a mixed use technology business community called Technology Park. This was the first time the name Johns Creek had been given to the area.

Today, the city of nearly 77,000 is a thriving home for commuters and local businesses alike. With nine golf courses within five miles, as well as the river and extensive recreational facilities, residents of Johns Creek apartments never lack for something exciting to do

Johns Creek Work and Study

While there are no colleges in Johns Creek itself, the Atlanta metro area is home to many great higher learning institutions. Reinhardt University’s adult learning center in Alpharetta and Georgia Perimeter College’s Dunwoody campus are two popular options just minutes outside of town.

Although Johns Creek is predominantly a commuter city, it also has a strong business community of its own, with particular strengths in high-tech industries. The largest city employer is State Farm Insurance’s Operation Center, while many residents work for the Macy’s systems and technology office, Emory Johns Creek Hospital and the Fulton County Board of Education. The city is also the worldwide headquarters of CIBA Vision, a contact lens manufacturer.

Tennis is also extremely popular, and Johns Creek boasts more members of the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association than any other metro Atlanta community. The Chattahoochee River is popular for fishing, rafting and kayaking, while fishers and boaters can also head to nearby Lake Sidney Lanier, one of the country’s most popular lakes.
