Living in LaGrange, GA
According to the New Georgia Encyclopedia, the city is named after Marquis de Lafayette's private home in Paris. The French aristocrat and Revolutionary War hero passed through the area in 1825, commenting on the beauty of the city and similarity to his home, resulting in a statue in the downtown square that honors him to this day. Today, LaGrange is partly a college town, being the home of many area universities, but it is also a very family-friendly community that offers amenities not usually found in small towns, including its own ballet company, symphony orchestra, opera company, airport and television station. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town is home to more than 29,900 residents based on a 2011 estimate.
LaGrange Attractions and Special Events
