Overview of Pooler

Just outside of historic Savannah, the rapidly growing city of Pooler offers all of the region’s acclaimed cultural amenities and distinct Southern charm, as well as a historical legacy of its own.

People looking for apartments for rent in Pooler will appreciate its expanding business base, its great shopping and entertainment options and its convenient location near some of the South’s most popular destinations.

Living in Pooler, GA

Pooler today is a far cry from the ragged rail depot community that first rose to fame as the site of William Sherman’s army camp during the general’s Civil War siege on Savannah. Named for a Savannah railroad employee, Pooler grew following the Civil War, finally becoming incorporated as a city in 1907. The opening of Interstate 95 fueled sustained commercial expansion, and the city became an increasingly popular home for Savannah commuters.

Home to around 19,000 people, Pooler’s range of shopping and entertainment options make it an exciting place to live, while the adjacent Savannah/Hilton Head airport makes it conveniently located. Residents of Pooler apartments can catch a race at the local speedway or head farther afield for attractions such as the famous beaches of nearby Hilton Head Island or the renowned dining and sightseeing of Savannah’s historic waterfront.

Pooler Work and Study

Although Pooler itself is not home to any colleges or universities, Savannah’s many top tier institutions, including Savannah State University and Savannah College of Art and Design, are all just minutes away.

Heavy equipment manufacturer JCB is based in Pooler and serves as one of its largest employers. The city is also the headquarters of tire manufacturer Dorsey Tire. Much of the city’s economic base is in retail sales, and many residents commute to Savannah.

Pooler Attractions and Special Events

The Savannah/Hilton Head area is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations, and, with its pleasant seaside climate, fascinating history and great food, it’s not hard to see why. Pooler residents can enjoy everything the area has to offer, including the beautiful beaches at Tybee and Hilton Head islands, both within an hour’s drive, and world class golfing. Several popular Savannah-area golf courses are just minutes outside of Pooler, while the city itself is home to a popular disc golf scene that hosts the annual Savannah Open Disc Golf Tournament. Area residents can also head down the Ogeechee River in a canoe or enjoy activities such as fishing, biking and tennis at Tom Triplett Park, which is on the historic site of William Sherman’s Civil War camp.

History buffs will also enjoy Pooler’s Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, which profiles the efforts of the Eighth Air Force Division from World War II through the present. Contemporary adventure seekers can enjoy go-karting at the Pooler’s Family Fun Zone amusement and sports park or catch a race at the renowned Oglethorpe Speedway Park, which hosts regular stock car racing events.
