Union City, GA
Overview of Union City
With dogwood tree-lined boulevards and distinctive Southern charm, Union City is one of Georgia's most sought-after communities. Just 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta but still maintaining the small-town atmosphere that is attractive to families, residents here love having all of the amenities of a city close by, but still remain tied into a tight-knit community. Excellent schools, a high quality of life and a pro-business way of life are just some of the reasons that many Georgia residents are giving Union City apartments for rent a second look. According to information from City-Data, the city has a cost of living index that is more than 5 points below the national average, making Union City a very affordable place to live.
Living in Union City, GA
Union City saw its beginnings during the turn of the 20th century, when Atlanta's city limits started to sprawl. It began as a residential development plan from two wealthy businessmen, Drewry Arthur Carmical and Charles Simon Barrett. Barrett, the then-newly elected president of the National Farmers Union, was looking for a new headquarters and found it just southwest of Atlanta, hence the name of Union City. It has doubled its land mass since its founding, showing that it is a community that many people want to be a part of. According to City-Data, the case is still true today. From 2000 to 2010, the city saw a whopping 67 percent jolt in population due to everything that the city has to offer to its residents. Based on a 2011 estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau, the city is home to more than 20,000 residents, indicating that this quaint small town has nowhere to go but up.
Union City Attractions and Special Events
Union City is home to many nearby attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium, the Fern Museum and the High Museum of Art. However, the city is best known for its close proximity to the Georgia Dome, home to the Atlanta Falcons NFL football team - a great venue for getting into the fun and excitement of the community.
