Overview of Geneva

Nominated as one of the best places in Illinois to raise a child by Bloomsberg Business Week, Geneva, IL, is located west of Chicago and between St. Charles and Batavia. The beautiful Fox River and overwhelmingly popular historical sites make the area a popular destination for tourists from around the world. The city's slogan is "A Picture Postcard," and many apartment renters will vouch that it lives up to that. Whether buying or renting is in your future, this city may be the perfect choice.

Living in Geneva

The first settler in the area was Daniel Shaw Haight, but he would sell his claim only a few years later, in 1835, to James and Charity Herrington. These two individuals, who had political connections, managed in 1836 to get the city named as the county seat. It gained village status and its current name in 1858. The area had formerly been known as Herrington's Ford, Big Spring and LaFox. As an important stop from Chicago, the city would eventually become vital for Illinois infrastructure.

According to the 2000 census, there are nearly 20,000 individuals living in neighborhoods around the city. By 2011, new home owners and apartment renters had resulted in an increase of nearly 2,000. When you live here, you won't want to stay cooped up inside too long since you can get out of the neighborhood and spend time with your new friends at events like Swedish Days, the Christmas Walk and Dancing with the Geneva Stars. If community events aren't your thing, you could always check out the Campana Factory, Elizabeth Place and a variety of other historical locations.

When you get an apartment in Geneva, rest comfortably knowing that you'll be absolutely fine if your car ever breaks down. The PACE bus system runs through the city and other Chicago suburbs, and the three routes ensure that you can get most places without spending all the rent money. Additionally, you could live in the area and still commute to Chicago via the Union Pacific/West train line. Those with vehicles also have it easy thanks to several important highways, such as State Routes 38, 31 and 25, running through the area and easy access to O'Hare International Airport.

Apartments in Geneva-Study

For those with children, the local school district was ranked as the 12th best in all of Illinois. There are several elementary schools, two middle schools and Geneva High School. Additionally, Rasmussen College and Waubonsee Community College are both in nearby Aurora, and this means you'll be able to get a great education without having to actually pay the often high apartment rent in a college town. Additionally, for those pursuing higher education options, Bradley University is only a few minutes south.

Apartments in Geneva-Work

Apartment renters in the area don't often have to worry about where they're getting their next rent payment, and that's because the area's 10-year job growth projection is more than 30 percent. This is obviously helped by a recovering economy, but employers such as Kane County, Cadence Health, Delnor Hospital and Geneva School District, who cumulatively employ nearly 3,000 people on their own, are great for the local economy as well. It's not just the county government that employs a fair amount of people. The city also has more than 200 employees of its own. Even the local baseball team, the Kane County cougars, with nearly 400 workers, likely employs someone from your new neighborhood.
