Located just 18 miles north of downtown Chicago, Glenview is a small suburban community in Cook County. Glenview is a village in Chicago’s North Shore region located along Lake Michigan. The history of Glenview began when the Winnebago, the first known Indians to inhabit Illinois, lived in a society bound by agricultural opportunities. Many different nomadic tribes traveled through the area until the treaty of Chicago in 1833 when they gave their land to northern Illinois. Shortly after, the first pioneers came from Europe and were attracted to the open prairies. Settlers flocked to the area and each were given 160 acres of land that spanned the areas now known as Niles and Maine Township.

After settlers became densely populated in the area, it was apparent there was a need for additional services. In 1899, the decision was made to incorporate the village and was originally called South Northfield. The area had several names before landing on Glen View, which was combined to Glenview after the community continued to prosper.
