Settlers flocked to the area and each were given 160 acres of land that spanned the areas now known as Niles and Maine Township.

In 1899, the decision was made to incorporate the village and was originally called South Northfield. The area had several names before landing on Glen View, which was combined to Glenview after the community continued to prosper.
