Discovering the past of Naperville is easy in the town’s historical village, Naper Settlement. Designed in 1969 by the now-named Naperville Heritage Society, it was originally an effort to save the St. John’s Episcopal Church, which had suffered damage since it was built in 1864. Major private employers in Naperville include Lucent Technologies, Kraft Foods, Nicor Gas and Solar Communications. Because of its close proximity to Chicago, O’Hare International Airport and Midway Airport, business owners and employees enjoy easy access to these transportation systems.

As of January 2012, Edwards Hospital and Health Services is one of the area's best healthcare facilities and the top employer for residents. 

According to statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau, the average rent is estimated at $1,194. Naperville apartments for rent in downtown or the historic district will be pricier than areas in other areas of the city, but it is generally an expensive area to live in. Luxury shops and restaurants line the quaint streets of Naperville, making the neighborhood hard to resist.

The city’s overall cost is 35 points higher than the national average, and food is 13 points higher than the average. The area is filled with high-end chains restaurants and boutique shop, as well as some less expensive options that anyone can explore. Utilities rank 4 points lower than the national average, likely due to the abundance of trees surrounding homes in the area making cooling bills less expensive.

Naperville has attractions for everyone. Residents flock to Cookie Dough Creations every summer for a delicious scoop of raw cookie dough. Since 1994, Cookie Dough Creations has claimed its title as the only place that sells raw cookie dough. This isn’t your ordinary bakery, guests can get their dough blended in ice cream or between two freshly made cookies. That’s right, a cookie and cookie dough sandwich.

Beyond the delicious sugary treats, the Naperville Riverwalk features 1.75 miles of brick paths, fountains and bridges winding through to Centennial Park. Open all year round, residents are always seen running, biking and walking through the beautiful scenery.
