Overview of North Aurora
Conveniently located along Interstate 88 around 40 miles west of Chicago, the town of North Aurora has become one of Illinois' most sought-after communities. With its warm and welcoming atmosphere, low crime rates and commendable school system, many families are calling North Aurora apartments for rent their new home. Dubbed a "village with a view to the future," many residents here are excited to see what the future holds for this thriving community. According to information from City-Data, many people are lining up to move into North Aurora, as the city has seen a whopping 58 percent jump in population from 2000 to 2010. Because of its easy access to the interstate and many small-town amenities that families hold dear, this great village has nowhere to go but up.
Living in North Aurora, IL
From its earliest days, settlers became attracted to living in North Aurora because of its close proximity to the Fox River. John Peter Schneider, a settler from Germany, was among the city's first citizens in the early 19th century, and many others quickly followed suit. Known as the "Big Woods" in the 1830s, the city provided a large amount of lumber for many communities along the Fox River during its start. Over time, the city relied on its prime location as a selling point for commuters to the Chicago area that expanded during the course of the 1800s. Today, North Aurora still remains a suburb of the Windy City but has earned the title of village in its own right. Because of the city's growth, it has had to update its comprehensive plans many times to address the needs of this burgeoning community. According to data from the 2010 U.S. Census Bureau, the city is now home to more than 16,750 residents.
North Aurora Attractions and Special Events
The areas in the Fox River Valley are home to many events, but one of the city's most popular is the Mid-American Canoe and Kayak Race held every summer. With 420 canoes racing down the Fox River and a Party in the Park following afterwards, this is a community event that many North Aurora residents are proud of.
