Anyone looking for a small Chicago suburb will find Richton Park to be the ideal place to settle down. With its proximity to the city and historic past, this village is a close-knit community that welcomes everyone.
This desirable area offers newcomers a range of housing options. Richton Park apartments for rent are available throughout the village.
Richton Park was built on what was once a very busy trade area. European settlers arrived to take advantage of trading and farming opportunities. The area was originally crossed by the Sauk Trail, a long Native American trade route that ran from the Mississippi River to Ottowa, Canada. The Illinois Central Railroad crossed a section of the trail, creating a business hub where Richton Park was formed.
Richton Park was officially incorporated and given its name in 1926, but the village remained quite small until the late 1960s. Sprawl from Chicago's nearby suburbs pushed its way into Richton Park and the population steadily grew. As more residents moved in, diversity within the community increased.
The village has come a very long way from its beginnings as a small trading town. It has blossomed into a successful suburb in the Chicago area that is home to 13,705 residents. With recent developments such as access to nearby highways, public transportation and increased construction, Richton Park has become a desirable area to call home.
Richton Park is located conveniently close to nearby Prairie State College, a community institution. The school offers students the opportunity to obtain a professional certificate or two-year degree. Prairie State College traces its roots back to 1957, and has grown substantially since that time. Also nearby is Governors State University. With a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs to choose from, most students will find a subject that suits their skills and interests. To make attending class easier on students, the school offers flexible courses and schedules some classes in the evenings, over the weekends and online.
Richton Park residents find employment all over Cook County. Some of the county's top employers include Advocate Health Care, AT&T, Walgreens, the University of Chicago, JPMorgan Chase and United Continental Holdings.
Those moving to this village will find that Richton Park apartments vary widely in terms of rent. Depending on location and amenities, residents can expect to pay between $750 and $1,500 per month. The U.S. Census Bureau found that the median gross monthly rent in the area is $932.
Richton Park residents may find that they can cut down on their expenses by using public transportation to get around. The village is home to a Metra commuter train station, and residents will find it's easy to get to downtown Chicago. This Metra station also has one of the largest commuter parking lots in the area, making it a breeze for residents to park their cars and hop on a train.
Richton Park hosts events to keep residents occupied throughout the summer. Every summer, the village celebrates National Night Out. All citizens are welcomed to the free event for family-friendly entertainment and fireworks.
Resident Appreciation Day also takes place during the summer, and residents can enjoy games and lunch in one of the local parks. The fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down because the community shows a movie in the park.
It's easy for all residents to get involved and meet their neighbors while living in Richton Park. A variety of fun community activities make integrating into the village a breeze. From dance classes to art workshops, residents of all ages will find some community activity they can enjoy.
