Living in Tinley Park, IL

The Tinley Park area was first settled in the 1830s, and in 1853 it was established as Bremen, a name which clearly reflects the area's German roots. Since its early day, Tinley Park has thrived as a commerce hub thanks to its close proximity to Chicago and the railroad lines that traveled through it. Tinley Park's current name honors its railroad success. The town is named after the community's first railroad station agent, Samuel Tinley Sr.

Tinley Park today is still a thriving suburb of Chicago. Although many people find employment in the nearby city of Chicago, others work at one of the city's several business parks or in the manufacturing, retail trade or construction fields. Tinley Park offers residents close proximity to several hospitals, Amtrak stations and institutes of higher education. It also has many programs working to better the community. The town was recently given a "National Night Out" award to recognize Tinley Park's crime, drug and violence prevention program, and Tinley Park also recently completed a grant program that studied the community's wellness and set benchmarks for improving health.

Tinley Park Attractions and Special Events

Residents and visitors alike find much to do in Tinley Park, from hiking to museums. Tinley Park's First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre draws people from all over to see popular music acts. The town is also home to several other theaters, art centers and an orchestra. Lovers of the outdoors enjoy one of several nature centers and the seasonal Bengtson's Pumpkin Farm in nearby Homer Glen. Residents are also still very connected to Tinley Park's past and they admire several historical districts and buildings in the village.
