A historic city with a fascinating past and lots of charm, Anderson is the ideal community for families, couples and even singles. This quaint community has something to offer all residents, whether it is in the form of entertainment, leisure activities or business opportunities.
Anderson apartments for rent are available for those who want to take the great opportunity to enjoy this city with urban amenities but a slower pace of life.
The historic city of Anderson was originally settled by the Delaware Native American tribe. When missionaries moved into the area in 1801, they began to develop the land and build small homes and businesses. The community really took off when natural gas was discovered in 1887. New residents and companies raced to Anderson to take advantage of its newfound resource. When the gas ran out in 1912, the economy returned to a slower pace, but many of the businesses that had come to the area during the discovery stayed.
Anderson then began to diversify its economy, which had previously relied heavily on manufacturing. While modern-day Anderson still counts manufacturing as one of its major industries, it has successfully drawn new businesses into the area. Its thriving population of nearly 56,000 makes this city the perfect size for those who want to experience city life with the atmosphere of a small community.
Anderson University is conveniently located within the community, and offers students a chance to earn an undergraduate or graduate degree. Anderson pupils can choose from a variety of academic programs and take opportunities to participate in the university honors program or study abroad. Students seeking an associate degree can attend Harrison College, which has a campus in Anderson. Multiple degree options are available at Harrison, and students can take advantage of flexible course offerings to make classes fit into their schedules.
Because Anderson worked to diversify its economy, there are a range of employment opportunities available within the city. Major employers include St. John's Health System, Anderson Community Schools, Community Hospital of Anderson, the City of Anderson, Kroger, Wal-Mart and Anderson University.
Data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that apartments in Anderson typically range from about $600 to $900 per month. The median gross monthly rent is $653, according to the same source.
Anderson is an affordable city when compared to other places in the country. The relatively low cost of living makes it easy for residents to enjoy a high quality of life in Anderson without spending a fortune.
Those who want to enjoy the arts will find a beautiful collection of pieces at the Anderson Center for the Arts. Aside from browsing the art displayed inside, residents can also participate in classes, workshops and programs to bring out their own artistic sides and learn more about different mediums.
Residents looking for an educational outdoor activity can head over to Mounds State Park. Visitors can explore the huge earth mounds made by prehistoric Native Americans. Archaeologists believe these mounds were used for religious ceremonies, and the structures continue to fascinate modern Anderson residents. An interpretive center teaches visitors even more about the mounds and the people that build them.
Indiana loves auto racing, and to get in on the action experience a race at Anderson Speedway. Year-round racing allows residents to see what all the fuss is about. This speedway, known as the "World's Fastest High-Banked Quarter Mile Oval" will give new residents a taste of a favorite Hoosier pastime.
