Living in Frankfort, IN
In 1829, three brothers from Warren County, Ohio, settled on the land where Frankfort is now located. A year later, they donated 60 acres to the county, which eventually led to the town becoming the county seat. The town was named after the home of the brothers’ great-grandparents' hometown of Frankfurt, Germany. The original plat of Frankfort consisted of 64 lots in eight blocks around a public town square in 1830.
During the electric light area, Frankfort got its name as the Gem City, because people claimed to be able to see the town from miles away on the prairie.
