Neighborhood Information for Kingpark, Indianapolis

Overview of King Park Indianapolis:

You know what they say: if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. Not to be confused as its own actual neighborhood, King Park is collection of several neighborhoods near Downtown Indianapolis that are working together to grow and develop their communities. From housing improvements to economic development, the residents of these Downtown neighborhoods have stepped up to work with private companies and government programs to revitalize parts of the city that were in a state of neglect. Fall Creek Place, Herron-Morton Place, and Old Northside are the neighborhoods in which this bubble of renaissance has occurred. With all of the effort that has gone into these locations over the years, the city has seen high crime rates drastically reduce; vacant lots became brand new apartments; and new businesses popping up all over the place. While there are always ways to improve, these neighborhoods are now home to some of the best places to live near Downtown Indianapolis.

King Park Indianapolis Rental Market

Apartments in Downtown Indianapolis, especially within the King Park area, happen to be extremely affordable. Remember, these neighborhoods all place heavy emphasis on preserving their history, hence one of the things that keep rent affordable is that there the housing ranges from old to new. Many King Park apartments reside in historic brick buildings and have vintage charm, and many new buildings tend to keep the same brick structure with more of an elegant, modern feel. Studios in these neighborhoods start around $399 a month, while two bedroom units max out around $800. Now this is for average buildings. There are a few luxury Downtown Indianapolis apartments that are newly constructed and have amenities like rooftop decks, and the average rent for those is more in the $900-$1200 range. It is also important to mention that apartments near Downtown don’t offer a ton of space. If you’re looking for three-bedroom rentals, you’ll need to go a little further outside of the King Park area in order to get adequate space.

King Park Dining & Entertainment

The King Park district, especially the neighborhoods of Old Northside and Herron-Morton Place, are known for having some of the best cultural attractions in Indianapolis. The dividing street between the two neighborhoods (16th street) is home to the Harrison Center for the Arts as well as several small clubs, coffee shops, and boutiques. The quaint architecture and adorable eateries make Old Northside and Herron-Morton Place a common destination for those looking to just walk around and enjoy the neighborhood. It also happens to be where a large portion of our King Park apartments are located, which is perfect for those who prefer to walk from their home to a cup of coffee or a bite to eat.

Residents of the King Park district have easy access to all of the restaurants, museums, and activities that Downtown Indianapolis has to offer. By far, the most popular destination in this area is the White River State Park that contains many museums, gardens, and the Indianapolis Zoo. Probably the more utilized destination among locals is the Circle Centre Mall, which features a large movie theater and plenty of delicious dining options.

Pet Friendly Downtown Indianapolis Apartments

A majority of Old Northside apartments contain units that accept both dogs and cats. However it is important to note that since the King Park neighborhoods are either in or close to Downtown Indianapolis, some apartment complexes place breed or weight restrictions on dogs. You will have to speak directly with the leasing offices to see what is and is not allowed within the properties that interest you. When it comes to living in King Park and caring for your pet, Downtown Indianapolis has you covered. From Downtown Doggie pet training, grooming, and boarding to the City Dogs pet store, you can easily find the care and treats to keep your pets happy and healthy.

Commuting From Downtown Indianapolis

While the IndyGo Bus System does have some lines that travel throughout the city, getting around on public transit is still not a convenient way to get to where you need to go in Indianapolis. Most everyone commutes by car and having access to major highways is usually a positive for any neighborhood. Old Northside is actually the southernmost of the King Park neighborhoods, and it is located at the intersection of I-65 and I-70 with easy access to both. Herron-Morton Place is just north of Old Northside, and Fall Creek is even more north than that, but all of the neighborhoods are located close to downtown and have relatively easy access to the highways we just mentioned.

Schools in King Park Indianapolis

Because King Park Indianapolis is a conglomeration of neighborhoods, listing all the available schools in the area wouldn’t be much help. What we can tell you is that there is a great selection of charter, public, and private schools that exist in this area. Charter schools you might want to research include The Project School (K-8) and Herron High School (9-12). Or if you are interested in private options, Fall Creek Place is home to The Oaks Academy which has fantastic reviews from parents and students alike.
