Overview of Shepherdsville

Shepherdsville is a smaller town in Bullitt County and is known for being the home of one of the first wine distilleries in the state. Located less than 30 minutes from both Elizabethtown and Louisville, it is home to a number of people who commute to those larger cities. Apartment renters in Shepherdsville can live near big-city employment and amenities while still enjoying life in a smaller town.

Living in Shepherdsville

The first settlers living in the area found employment working in the local salt mines. As more people moved, the town slowly saw its population increase, especially after locals built a hot springs hotel. Most of the local residents worked in the mines or owned and operated farms. It wasn't until the 1950s that the town saw its neighborhoods really grow. New roads let locals seek work outside the city. When the state built Interstate 65 in the 1980s, the town saw a large number of people move to the city and continue working in Louisville. Of the more than 11,000 people now living in Shepherdsville, many still work in Louisville.

The city is now home to some fun activities for apartment renters to enjoy. Kart Kountry lets you rent a go-kart and take off at top speeds around a track. If you aren't quite ready to get behind the wheel of a fast car, you can race slot cars at the Bullitt Speedway.

Head away from the city and into Louisville to visit the Louisville Slugger Museum. The company is the oldest continually operating manufacturer of baseball bats and now provides bats for most major league teams. You can take a tour of the production facility to see workers making the bats, get your hands on some of the company's oldest bats and watch videos of its products in action. Visitors receive a miniature Louisville Slugger on their way out.

If you love scaring yourself silly, plan a visit to Waverly Hills Sanatorium, which is just 30 minutes from Shepherdsville. Often called one of the most haunted places in the world, the sanatorium is open to the public for tours and hosts special Halloween events.

The location of the town on Interstate 65 makes it easy for those who rent a home in town to hop in the car and head north to Louisville neighborhoods or east to Lexington. You can also catch a bus from the Transit Authority of River City. Also known as TARC, it makes stops in Shepherdsville and takes riders to and from Louisville.

Apartments in Shepherdsville-Study

Many apartment renters who live in Shepherdsville commute to a nearby campus. Louisville is less than 30 minutes up the highway and offers different opportunities for students. You can earn a two-year degree or complete a certificate program at Jefferson Community & Technical College, study art and design at Sullivan College of Technology and Design or take courses at Daymar College.
