Aberdeen, MD
Overview of Aberdeen
Cruise up Interstate 95 northeast from Baltimore for about 30 miles and you will run into the charming town of Aberdeen, one of the fastest growing communities in the tri-state area. With its sprawling neighborhoods, family-friendly lifestyle and loads of outdoor recreation, it makes sense that so many people are seeking Aberdeen apartments for rent.
Close to all the amenities of the big city and home to several leading businesses, it is no surprise that this town boasts a growing estimated population of more than 15,000 residents, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Because Aberdeen has so much to offer, many residents dub this small town the "Gateway to the Chesapeake Bay."
Living in Aberdeen, MD
According to the Aberdeen Heritage Trust, this quaint town's history began with a well-situated tavern. This meeting place on Swan Creek Road and Philadelphia Post Road quickly grew into a city by the early 1800s when a railroad line came into town. Many commercial and residential plots began to draw up in the area because of its ideal location between Baltimore and Philadelphia. As a result, the population grew and the city was incorporated in 1892. After President Woodrow Wilson ordered the establishment of the Aberdeen Proving Ground and U.S. Army Artillery Testing Ground in 1917, Aberdeen became one of the strongest military communities in Maryland.
Aberdeen Attractions and Special Events
There is no better way to be a part of the community than to check out the Aberdeen Ironbirds at Ripken Stadium. The official Minor League baseball team for the city, the team is also the official affiliate for the Baltimore Orioles. Ripken stadium (named after the famous Oriole Hall of Famer and hometown hero Cal Ripkin Jr.) also hosts many community events in its 6,000-seat stadium.
