Overview of Baltimore

Canton is a neighborhood located in the southeastern section of Baltimore along the outer harbor, approximately two miles east of downtown. It features 91 square blocks of row houses with many unique shapes and styles, including some that were constructed in the early 20th century. The central point of the community is O'Donnell Square, which contains a park, art gallery, businesses, shops and restaurants. Canton Baltimore dates back to the late 19th century when the land was developed and sold for industrial use on the waterfront. Over the years, industry gradually moved out while new marinas and housing moved into the area. Some of the older industrial buildings have been converted into waterfront condominiums and apartments.
