Overview of Downtown Baltimore

Downtown Baltimore is a relatively small area that consists of five neighborhoods: City Center, Westside, Mount Vernon, Camden Yards, and Inner Harbor. While each neighborhood offers its own unique qualities, only a few of them contain residential areas. We’ve broken it down to give you some information on areas where we offer a selection of Baltimore apartments.

City Center is definitely the type of area you would think of when you imagine what a downtown should be. This historic financial district contains a majority of Baltimore’s skyscrapers and is home to hundreds of businesses. There is an increasing amount of housing being created in this area; specifically in the Charles Center district.

Downtown Baltimore’s West Side has recently become the main residential hub due to the creation of luxurious new housing and retail space. It is anchored by the University of Maryland, Baltimore and is home to many law and doctorate students as well as established professionals who work in the area.

Mount Vernon contains many of Downtown’s cultural attractions and a selection of historic apartments and homes. Like its neighbor to the north, Mid-Town Belvedere attracts a younger crowd who enjoys living within walking distance to dining, nightlife, and entertainment.

Downtown Baltimore Apartments & Rentals

Now that you have a general idea of what each neighborhood is about, we’ll give you more specific information about the rental market. Our Downtown Baltimore apartments are concentrated mostly within the West Side and City Center and contain a variety of sizes from studios to multi-bedroom lofts. Studio and one bedroom apartments typically range in price from $1,100 to $1,500, while two bedrooms tend to rent between $1,700 and $2,000. Lofts tend to be even pricier, and there are also newly constructed apartment buildings that tend to be more expensive but also offer an array of luxurious amenities. Whether you’re looking for an affordable apartment with charming restoration detail, or a swanky loft close to your high-rise office job, Downtown Baltimore apartments have the range of services, locations, and prices to fit your needs.

Downtown Baltimore Dining & Entertainment

While only certain Downtown neighborhoods have apartments for rent, all of them specialize in unique types of entertainment. Camden Yards is a sports-lovers dream. Home to both the Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens stadiums, Camden is a great place to catch a game and indulge in one of the many restaurants and bars that surround the stadiums. Just a few blocks away you’ll find Downtown's Inner Harbor, which is the largest tourist destination in Baltimore. With a mix of education attractions like the National Aquarium and Port Discovery Children's Museum as well as a plethora of shopping, dining, and entertainment, this area features activities that both visitors and locals enjoy. While we already mentioned that West Side is a popular place to live, it’s also full of life and things to do. Not only are there retail centers popping up all over the neighborhood, it also contains several performing arts centers, including the Hippodrome Theatre, 1st Mariner Arena, and the Everyman Theatre.

Moving over to the City Center neighborhood, this area is mostly full of businesses and skyscrapers and is definitely a sight to behold. People who live all around Baltimore appreciate the beauty of its skyline. City Center also has some gems like the Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar; a local favorite for finding fresh produce, local art, and unique goods. Lastly we’ll travel up to Mount Vernon where you will find cultural destinations like the Walter Art Museum and Contemporary Museum Baltimore; both of which are surrounded by a multitude of exceptional restaurants and bars. I guess what we’re trying to say is: the neighborhoods in Downtown Baltimore have something for everyone. Seriously.

Pet Friendly Apartments in Downtown Baltimore

Great news, pet owners! Almost all of our Downtown Baltimore apartments accept cats, and a large portion of those accept dogs as well. It’s always nice to know that it won’t be a battle to find the perfect home for you and your furry friends.

Aside from that, Baltimore is home to several independent companies that travel all over the city to take care of your pets within your own home. Charm City Pups is a favorite service for locals that provides dog walking, pet sitting, and even training in your own home! And on those days when the weather is beautiful, you and your pup can head over to the Liberty Dog Park near Charles Center and enjoy a day of off-leash exercise.

Downtown Baltimore Commuting Options

There are many options for public transit in Downtown Baltimore, including light rail and bus service, plus the MARC Train (service to Washington DC) is accessible at Camden Station. Most people who live Downtown also work Downtown, so if you aren’t walking distance from the office there is surely a route that will take you there. All of the neighborhoods are also well connected by highways and have easy access to I-83, I-695, I-95, I-295, and I-395.

Apartments in Downtown Baltimore-Study

The Baltimore school system is unique to many other areas. While it offers an assortment of public schools, it also offers a large selection of specialized public charter schools. We’re going to be honest: most of the schools in the public system are very poorly rated. In Downtown Baltimore there are no public options, but there are several options for private. The K12 International Academy serves grades K-12, and The Keystone School serves 6-12. There are not many families with school age children that live in Downtown Baltimore, but if you are contemplating the move and you have young children you should definitely do your research to find the best option for your children’s growing young minds.

For those looking into higher education options, Johns Hopkins University, the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), and Baltimore City Community College are all located nearby.
