Equidistantly located between the border of Pennsylvania and Maryland and Baltimore, Cockeysville is a census designated place that has a small population but a number of things for these lucky residents to do in the typically warm southern climate. With easy access to a number of swimming holes and numerous golf courses, it is easy to see why people stick around.
Due to its location on the edge of Baltimore County, people looking for Cockeysville apartments for rent will be able to commute to the city in under 30 minutes, and head right back into the wilderness following a tough day of work.
Thomas Cockey is the founder of the city, and his family and their offspring spread out over the area and helped to bring a number of business opportunities to the area during the waning years of the 18th century. Several commercial ventures panned out and the location of Cockeysville made it a vital junction during the years leading up to and during the Civil War.
Home to an estimated more than 20,000 residents, according to the 2010 Census, the city is spread out across the edge of Baltimore County. Cockeysville apartments are available on both sides of Interstate 83, and easy access to many of the surrounding areas is provided by a number of buses and trains in the area.
While the city may be well known to Maryland residents, the rest of the country can see the impact of Cockeysville on the country by looking at the Washington Monument. This historic structure was partially built with limestone from the quarries within the region, and Cockeysville marble comprises the upper half of the iconic testament to the first President.
Finding work in the area will not be tough for potential residents, as the proximity of the city to Baltimore provides numerous employment opportunities and a number of residents make the commute to the largest city in Maryland. Within Cockeysville, there are several golf courses and smaller employers, as the Church Lane Shopping Center and the Timonium Square Shopping Center house a variety of stores.
The Grand Lodge of Maryland is located in Cockeysville, and the museum located at this site has a variety of memorabilia associated with George Washington and other prominent Masons.
In terms of education, Towson University is under an hour's drive away from the city, and residents can head here or to the city of Baltimore with ease in order to fulfill an academic pursuit.
The area is close enough to Baltimore to commute to the city, but far enough away to allow for a nice and suburban feeling for any Cockeysville apartments. Potential residents are provided with a number of choices in the spacious sprawl of the region, and can live closer to the Loch Raven Reservoir or near one of the many outdoor entertainment areas scattered around the edge of the county.
According to the 2010 Census, the median gross rent for property in Cockeysville was $1,003 a month, with prices ranging based on location and size.
Many of the attractions of the area have to do with the environment of the area, as the fertile ground has led to the construction of numerous golf courses and the natural quarries of the area provide residents with swimming holes galore. The Beaver Dam Swimming Club was established to help oversee 30 acres of water that give locals a chance to step out of the sun.
Picnics and cookouts are commonplace at many of the swimming holes and quarries, and younger couples often enjoy time outside before heading into Baltimore for a night on the town. While Cockeysville has been shaped by the surrounding area and proximity to the largest city in Maryland, it has retained its own culture and is a wonderful place to settle down.
