Dundalk, MD is an unincorporated community in Baltimore County. In 2006, Dundalk was named one of Money Magazine’s Best Places to Live, and it continues to uphold a high standard for living. Dundalk was first explored by John Smith in 1608 when the area was inhabited by the Susquehanna Indians. The first recorded deed in the area was when Thomas Todd of Virginia purchased 1,150 acres of land in the area in 1664. Although his home was burned down in the War of 1812, it was rebuilt after the war and still stands as a historical landmark today.
By 1856, Henry McShane established McShane Bell Foundry, which manufactured bronze bells, cast iron pipes and furnace fittings. He named the town after his birthplace, Dundalk, Ireland. The town began to grow and more industrial companies came to the area. This encouraged a plan to plot out land for businesses in specific areas, while the rest was used for homes, schools, fields and parks.
