Living in Lutherville-Timonium, MD
Dr. John Kurtz and Dr. John Morris founded Lutherville in 1852 with traditional Lutheran values. The town, named after the German reformer Martin Luther, was a stop on the North Central Railway in Baltimore County. The town gained fame when the men founded the Lutherville Female Seminary, which was the first women’s college south of the Mason Dixon line.
Today, the historic district here is still an important part of the city’s landscape. Founded in 1972, it is home to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. John’s Methodist Church, the Church of the Holy Comforter, the Oak Grove House and the Octagon House, all built and preserved since the 1800s.
