Living in Middle River, MD
It’s common to hear Essex and Middle River considered the same community, as both are located in the eastern region of the county. These areas were the least urbanized areas at the turn of the century, but today they show the most sustainable growth.
In 1909, the Taylor Land Company began the community, which was used by residents of Baltimore for growing gardens because land was cheap. By 1921, the region was slowly turning into a town with the opening of a fire station and two churches. A few years later, schools were built and the community was growing into more than a rural getaway for urbanites. The Eastern Rolling Mill played a major role in the community opened in 1919 and continues to be an important source for jobs.
