Living in Owings Mills, MD
Owings Mills was once a sprawling land settled by Samuel Owings in the early- to mid-1700s. A miller by trade, he built three mills to circumvent the nearby Gwynn's Falls, hence the name of the town. The area remained largely agricultural until prominent families began to move outside of the city in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. During the industrial revolution that swept the United States, Owings Mills became a popular mining area for flint, ore and gold.
Over time, Owings Mills grew as a northern suburb of the city of Baltimore and became a popular spot for residents because of its northernmost location on the Baltimore Metro Subway. Avid shoppers also matriculated to the area because of the popularity to Owings Mills Mall. With a lively small-town atmosphere, this neighborhood is highly residential and family-oriented. Although there are 30,000 people living in the suburb, the area still boasts more than 12,500 households.
