Living in Acton, MA
The community of Acton began as four early land grants in the 1600s. By 1730, there were roughly two dozen settlers in the area, and five years later Acton was incorporated as a town. The agricultural community had several gristmills and sawmills that were necessary, along with Faulkner Mills, an original large-scale manufacturer of woolen clothing in the country. By the 1870s, other industries came to the area and products were shipped across the country.
Acton remained a farming community until the 1950s when development turned much of the land into neighborhoods. At the time, Acton was made up of three different villages: Acton Center, West Acton and South Acton, which eventually changed to the current form of government.
