Overview of Acton

Acton is a small suburban community in Middlesex County, Mass. Situated about 25 miles northwest of Boston, residents of Acton are in an ideal spot for quiet suburban living without having to give up all the amenities of a major metropolitan area. Although the population has nearly tripled in the past three decades, the community still retains the small-town charm that so many have cherished. Boasting beautiful historic architecture and tree-lined country roads, the scenic town still thrives because of its location.

With easy access to Routes 2, 27, 11, and 495, residents can travel virtually anywhere with ease. Acton apartments for rent are perfect for those working downtown who prefer the simple lifestyle of a rural New England town. According to City-Data, the population of Acton in 2009 was around 21,200 residents.

Living in Acton, MA

The community of Acton began as four early land grants in the 1600s. By 1730, there were roughly two dozen settlers in the area, and five years later Acton was incorporated as a town. The agricultural community had several gristmills and sawmills that were necessary, along with Faulkner Mills, an original large-scale manufacturer of woolen clothing in the country. By the 1870s, other industries came to the area and products were shipped across the country.

Acton remained a farming community until the 1950s when development turned much of the land into neighborhoods. At the time, Acton was made up of three different villages: Acton Center, West Acton and South Acton, which eventually changed to the current form of government.

Acton Attractions and Special Events

Residents of Acton are so close to Boston and the city’s many events that there is no excuse for boredom. Living in Acton apartments offers the diverse attractions available in Boston such as Boston Vegetarian Food Festival, the Fisherman’s Feast and the Boston Arts Festivals. Being so close to downtown also means that a day trip to a historical landmark like the Boston Tea Party Ship and Museum or Fenway Park are very feasible.
