Overview of Attleboro

Attleboro, Massachusetts, once had a number of jewelry designers and manufacturers within its city limits, which helped it earn the nickname: The Jewelry Capital of the World. Though many of those companies no longer exist, the city remains relevant due to its proximity to several major cities. It is less than 40 miles from Boston and less than 20 miles from Fall River. Apartment renters may find that the great schools and job opportunities in the city make it a good place to live and rent.

Living in Attleboro

Attleboro started life as a large network of smaller towns, but as those towns grew, several split off into separate cities. Once known as Attleborough, it adopted its current name when it established itself as a city in 1904. As various jewelry companies moved into the city around the turn of the century, it became a top place to live and work. With a current population of more than 43,000 people, it somehow still retains its small town charm.

Visitors and locals alike enjoy the museums located within the city. The Women at Work Museum focuses on the history of women in the workforce, including the women who worked in local factories during World War II. The Attleboro Arts Museum is also renowned thanks to its large collection of pieces by local, regional and international artists.

The L.G. Balfour Jewelry Plant was once the area's top employer, and the city named the L.G. Balfour Riverwalk in its honor. The walkway winds itself down around the river and has ample places to stop along the way. You can eat or have a quick drink in a cafe or restaurant or check out the locally owned shops and boutiques.

Opened in 1937, Capron Park Zoo remains popular with both apartment renters and homeowners. The zoo is home to around 100 animals and more than 40 different species. It is part of a special project designed to provide homes for endangered animals and houses a special education center for children. When you rent in the neighborhood surrounding the zoo, you can stop in any day of the week for a visit.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority owns and operates two commuter stations that are designed to help commuters get to their jobs quickly with minimal stops. You can also hop on one of the buses operated by the Greater Attleboro Taunton Regional Transit Authority to reach destinations throughout the city and in some nearby neighborhoods. With Interstate 95 and other major highways nearby, you can also easily commute via area roads.

Apartments in Attleboro-Study

The main option for apartment renters interested in college is Bristol Community College, which has a local branch in the city. Citing the popularity of that college, Bridgewater State University decided to open its own satellite campus in the city. That campus is now part of BCC. You may also want to rent an apartment in a neighborhood near the outskirts of the city. There are a few campuses less than 5 minutes away from the edges of the city, including Fisher College and Brown University.
