Brookline, MA
Overview of Brookline
Not many towns in America offer residents the opportunity to walk a mile and be right in the middle of one of the most vibrant cities in the world, but Brookline, Massachusetts, is an exception.
Located immediately to the west of Boston, the town provides incredibly easy access to all of the amenities of the big city while still maintaining a quiet sleepy town feel. People seeking Brookline apartments for rent will find themselves in a town with great shops, restaurants and culture and they may never want to leave.
Living in Brookline, MA
The first residents of Brookline were farmers from Boston with grants to pasture their cattle in the surrounding area, which they entered via a bridge across the Muddy River in 1639. Over the years the area was further settled.
One of the town's claims to fame is the Emerald Necklace park system. In the late 1800s, Brookline and Boston jointly hired Frederick Law Olmsted to create the system. Olmsted transformed the marshlands surrounding the Muddy River into the Riverway, which provides an excellent opportunity for people to escape the hustle and bustle of city and walk along the river in solitude.
One of the best aspects of living in Brookline is the subway and trolley system, which locals call the "T". There are several branches of the green line that go through the town and they give people with apartments in Brookline easy access to Boston.
There are many different neighborhoods in Brookline and each has its own flavor. Brookline Village is located close to the border with Boston but has many quiet streets that would be perfect for families. Coolidge Corner is located directly on trolley line and has a number of restaurants and shops that give it an exciting feel. Washington Square - which is also directly on the trolley line - is a bit farther away from Boston and has upscale shops and restaurants that make it a great choice for young professionals who commute into the city.
Brookline Work and Study
Due to its proximity to Boston and the commuting options available, many people who live in Brookline choose to commute into the city for work. However, there are still a number of employment opportunities in the town, with more than 1,500 businesses, according to the town's 2005-2015 Comprehensive Plan.
Two of the largest employers are the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the New England Institute of Art. In addition to this school, Brookline is the home of Newbury College. Brookline is also incredibly close to some of the great schools that Boston is known for, especially Boston University and Boston College.
Rentals in Brookline, MA and Cost of Living

Brookline Attractions and Special Events
As previously mentioned Brookline's park system is a point of pride for the town, but there is much more that it has to offer to residents. The Country Club is a famed golf course that has been home to several U.S. Open championships throughout the year.
