Living in Chelmsford, MA
Chelmsford was one of the original Massachusetts Bay colonies settled around 1653 by English settlers. The city always had its roots as a farming community until after World War II, when the areas around Boston began to sprawl and Chelmsford's agricultural communities were supplanted by residential developments for the growing area. Despite its fast-growing population, the town still features many of its older colonial relics in its historic downtown.
Today, the area of Chelmsford is twice its original size and home to around 33,000 residents, according to the city's website. With plenty of history, great schools and community togetherness, it is likely that Chelmsford will show no signs of slowing down.
Chelmsford Attractions and Special Events
Because of its forested location near many rivers, Chelmsford is home to many areas that are ideal for outdoor recreation. One of the city's most prized areas is the Thanksgiving Ground Forest, a 45-acre expansion of hunting grounds located just south of the city. The area gets its name from an annual gathering of Chelmsford residents each Thanksgiving at the site for an old-fashioned fox hunt.
There are plenty of colonial historical landmarks that the city takes great pride in, including the Barrett-Byam Homestead, the city's Forefathers Burying Ground and Revolutionary War Memorial that honors the city's more than 350-year history.
