Framingham, MA
Overview of Framingham
Though the fact may be contested by similarly sized regions around the U.S., Framingham has been known as the biggest town in the country, and the 68,461 Massachusetts residents, according to the 2010 Census, who call it home will defend this title. Its diverse population and important role in American history have shaped the local government, and the town meetings that are held still dictate how it will be run.
Since the town is located along the Worcester Commuter Line route, its residents are provided with quick access to the western city or downtown Boston, making it an ideal area to live for young professionals or families looking for Framingham apartments for rent.
Living in Framingham, MA
The history of Framingham has played a pivotal role in its emergence as a modern commercial and commuting center, and John Stone's settling of the area in 1647 helped to establish a permanent community. Thomas Danforth, a local official, developed the land, and his farms became incorporated as the town in 1700.
The opening of the Worcester Turnpike - later to become Route 9 and one of the region's most travelled roads - in 1810 helped to spread commerce to the areas between Worcester and Boston, with Framingham at the midpoint. The town retained its transportation roots throughout the 19th century, and in 1871 with the opening of the Framingham and Lowell Railroad companies, it became the railroad hub for eastern Massachusetts.
The 20th century brought more commerce to the area and major assembly plants for the General Motors Corporation and the nation's first regional shopping malls helped to support expansion of the town's population. People looking for Framingham rentals can still see remnants of the factories that once powered the local economy.
Framingham Work and Study
Since the town is located on a major commuter rail line and is situated along one of the state's most travelled highways, both of which provide easy access to Boston and Worcester, many people with apartments in Framingham work in one of the major metropolitan areas in Massachusetts.
While many people commute to Boston or Worcester for work, Framingham has a number of prominent companies located within its limits. The Bose Corporation is headquartered in the town, and Marmaxx Group, First Fidelity Mortgage Co., Staples and TJ Maxx all employ more than 1,000 workers in the area.
Shoppers World and the Natick Collection are two massive retail outlet areas located within Framingham, and the associated stores provide residents with a number of job and shopping opportunities.
Though the town's high school is one of the largest in the state, there are only a few higher education opportunities in Framingham. Massachusetts Bay Community College and Framingham State University are the two major institutions in the area, and some of the people with apartments in Framingham are students at one of these schools.
Rentals in Framingham, MA and Cost of Living
People looking to move into the area will find a large selection of Framingham rentals to choose from, as they can locate a residence near one of the major commuting centers or closer to the schools in the town.
The median gross rent in the town is $1,112 a month, according to the 2010 Census.
Framingham Attractions and Special Events
People from around the state come to enjoy one of the many shopping destinations in Framingham, and the redesigned Natick Collection contains some of the finest luxury stores in Massachusetts. The town also has a number of golf courses, providing more active residents with a place to take their swings on hot summer and fall afternoons.
The area's history can be explored in the Danforth Museum, as there are exhibits dedicated to art, industry and the role of the town in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. There are a number of parks located in the area, and the Garden in the Woods will provide people with Framingham apartments with a chance to see some of the most beautiful botanical areas in the state.
