Overview of Hudson

Hudson, Mass., is located in the eastern region of the state in Middlesex County. The town has a population of approximately 14,900, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It is the perfect place to raise a family and enjoy close proximity to bigger cities such as Boston, which is 40 miles east. People looking for Hudson apartments to rent will find a town with a Victorian-like design and a tight-knit community.

Living in Hudson, MA

Hudson's landscape of valleys, hills and wetlands was shaped thousands of years ago by glaciers. The area's history began in the early 1600s, when second generation settlers shared the land with Native Americans. The town was incorporated in 1866 and was home to many abolitionists, some of whom opened their homes to slaves on the Underground Railroad. Unfortunately, many of the town's earliest buildings were destroyed in a fire in 1894, so today the town's oldest architecture dates back to the Victorian era.

Hudson residents enjoy the quaint downtown, with rows of locally owned shops in brick buildings and tree-lined streets. For work, area citizens find employment in the leading industries, which include manufacturing, retail trade, professional, scientific and technical services. Many also commute to nearby towns for their jobs and return to the peacefulness of Hudson at night. In the city, residents enjoy amenities such as an Amtrak station, two malls and several area churches. They are also situated near several institutes of higher education, including Framingham State College, Wellesley College and Brandeis University.  Hudson residents can keep up with the town's happenings on its Facebook page.

Hudson Attractions and Special Events

Residents in Hudson apartments for rent enjoy participating in the town's many community-focused events. They take part in the annual Downtown Holiday Stroll and enjoy shows at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts.

History buffs enjoy visiting Mossman House on Park Street, which is listed on the National Historic Register. This Victorian mansion was  home to Colonel Adelbert M. Mossman, a civil war veteran who organized Hudson’s first military unit. Colonel Mossman died at the age of 90 years old and was then Hudson’s then oldest male resident. Residents of all ages enjoy the hiking trails just on the edge of town at Marlborough-Sudbury State Forest.
