Living in Lynn, MA
Lynn was founded around 350 years ago when Salem residents wanted to live in a more open and rural area. Although many people in the area began developing Lynn into an agricultural and fishing community, the city quickly became known for making high-quality leather shoes, leading to its first tannery being built in 1629. Many European settlers began flocking to the town, building up Lynn's economy and by the mid-1800s, Lynn became known as one of the biggest shoemaking centers of the world. Today, Lynn has developed into one of the state's most culturally diverse and hard-working urban areas. Although the city remained agricultural and small in size for many years, Lynn is now home to more than 90,000 residents.
