Living in Raynham, MA

After traveling to the area in 1637, English settler Elizabeth Poole and her brother William acquired a large section of the land that had been purchased from the Wampanoag Native tribe. After the Pooles received the land, they began building properties. Originally considered to be a part of Taunton, Mass., the name changed after it became an incorporated town in 1731.

By 1652, people living in the area found a bog iron, which led to the development of Taunton Iron Works. Over the years, the city became well-known for its iron production, which eventually led to other establishments forming in nearby colonies. Although this was a major part of Raynham's success, to this day, it has been most known for its rural and agrarian base.
