Overview of Adrian

Adrian, Mich., is the seat of Lenawee County and in the southeast region of the state. The city is said to be “off of the beaten path,” but Adrian is home to approximately 21,000 people and its quaint downtown sees many visitors thanks to the historic Crosswell Opera House and two colleges in town.

Siena Heights University was founded in 1919 and has approximately 2,300 students on all of its campuses in southeastern Michigan, and approximately 600 students live on the Adrian campus.

Adrian Attractions and Special Events

Adrian’s Croswell Opera House has been downtown since 1866, and is an official Michigan Historic site. It provides entertainment to the entire county and has hosted many prominent historical figures, such as Susan B. Anthony, Frederick Douglass and Edwin Booth. In the early 1990s, the opera house was updated with renovations and ticket sales soared. Now, ticket holders enjoy seeing Broadway shows and children’s plays.

Residents who want to learn more about the county go to the Lenawee County Historical Museum, a castle-like Romanesque building in Adrian on the National Register of Historic Places. Outdoors, families like to play at Adrian’s many parks, tee off on its golf courses or go out on Adrian Lake.
