Overview of Brighton

The city of Brighton is located in southeastern Michigan in Livingston County, approximately 18 miles north of Ann Arbor and 39 miles west of Detroit. While there are more than 70,000 residents living in the greater Brighton area, approximately 7,500 live within city limits. Brighton apartments for rent can easily be found across the 3.56 square miles of land.

Residents enjoy being located at one of the busiest transportation intersections for national and international commerce: U.S. Route 23 and Interstate 96. This prime location provides many economic and residential advantages.

Living in Brighton, MI

The land on which Brighton sits was initially part of the Green Oak Township, separating from it in April of 1838. The first settler to the area was Elijah Marsh in 1832, but the first person to actually purchase land was Hugh Alexander in 1833. According to City Town Info, when Marsh arrived to the area, he established a post office and became postmaster for the town.

One of the reasons many Brighton residents find the city such a great place to live is its thriving downtown district. The area is popular for residences, business and leisure.
