Caledonia was founded shortly after Asahel Kent and his wife settled in Kent County in 1838. Although a number of fires ravaged the area in the early 20th century, Caledonia continued to flourish. Lakeside Beach and Park is located in Caledonia, and provides local families with exceptional natural recreation opportunities. The Saskatoon Golf Club is also in the area, and allows players to enjoy the scenic Michigan landscape. With 36 championship holes, the club is one of the best places to play golf in the state. Residents also head to Grand Rapids to partake in many exciting events, including the Festival of the Arts, Rock the Rapids Music Festival, Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival and Grand Rapids International Wine, Beer and Food Festival.
