Living in Camden, MI
The Camden area was originally inhabited by the Huron-Potawatomi Native American tribe, and the earliest settlers built homes along the Chicago Turnpike. The land that now makes up Hillsdale County almost did not become part of Michigan, after a fight during the Toledo War over 468-square miles of land. A large part of Hillsdale County became Ohio territory, but the Camden area stayed, and prospered with the arrival of the railroad.
The area's major industries today are manufacturing, construction and retail trade. There are five industrial parks that house 117 businesses through the county and they employ more than 7,000 people. Products made by these manufacturers include injection molding, modular portable ramps, meat packaging and general machining. Camden residents have access to amenities such as the Camden Township Library, several medical centers and nearby institutes of higher education, including Spring Arbor University and Jackson Community College.
