The village of Camden, Mich., is in Camden Township, which is situated in Hillsdale County. The Camden area was originally inhabited by the Huron-Potawatomi Native American tribe, and the earliest settlers built homes along the Chicago Turnpike. A large part of Hillsdale County became Ohio territory, but the Camden area stayed, and prospered with the arrival of the railroad.
