Living in Clawson, MI

In 1827, the first road was built through Clawson and is now Main Street downtown. Some of the first businesses within the area included two sawmills on each side of town built throughout the 1930s and ‘40s, and later a post office in 1980. By the 1900s, Clawson saw change and an influx of settlers took to the area and residents tried to clean up the neighborhood by planting flowers along the railway station, but it wasn’t until 1940 when the town really started to grow. After a boom of new homes, commercial businesses and schools in the 1960s, the town suffered a population decrease in the 1970s, which forced some schools to shut down.

Today, the community of Clawson is coined as the “Little City with the Big Heart” and the economic development of the area is boasting quaint restaurants, facade renovations and property expansions.
