The small, residential area of Clawson is situated just north of Detroit and close to transportation. After a boom of new homes, commercial businesses and schools in the 1960s, the town suffered a population decrease in the 1970s, which forced some schools to shut down.

Today, the community of Clawson is coined as the “Little City with the Big Heart” and the economic development of the area is boasting quaint restaurants, facade renovations and property expansions. Other schools include Marygrove College, University of Detroit Mercy and Lawrence Technological University.

Clawson residents also turn to Detroit for employment. The motor city boasts careers in the surrounding areas of Clawson and because of this the average commute for a resident is only 23 minutes, 5 minutes less than the national average.

Living in Clawson is fairly inexpensive. The overall cost of living in the city is 9 points lower than the national average and food is 8 points lower, according to Best Places. Although utilities are slightly higher than the national average, likely because of the cold winters, costs are only about 4 points higher than the rest of the country.

There are plenty of fun events throughout the year in Clawson for everyone. The Fire & Spice... and Everything Nice! event includes a chili cook-off, marshmallow drop and chainsaw artists during February for outdoor fun in the chilly weather. Cinema in Street is more than just a movie event for the family, this annual outing includes a dance contest, games and entertainment based on the movie being played.  But one of the biggest festivals in Clawson attracts more than 10,000 visitors each year since its start in 1998 - Down on Main Car Show. Other fun events in the city include The Great Pubkin Crawl and a Downtown Block Party to end off each summer right.
