Living in Comstock, MI
Settlers began arriving to the Comstock Park area in the 1820s. By the turn of the century, the furniture manufacturing capital of America was in what is now Grand Rapids. With the invention of the railroad, Comstock Park served as a crossing for two train lines and saw many visitors.
Today, many Comstock Park residents find jobs as metal and plastic workers or in other production occupations. Comstock Park Public Schools has approximately 2,500 students, and the small number allows the district to focus on each student's academic and athletic ability. The school district's achievement level is above the state average.
Comstock Attractions and Special Events
Comstock Park families enjoy days of play at AJ's Family Fun Center. From racing go-karts to playing putt-putt, the fun center lets everyone have the chance to act like a kid again. Residents also make trips to the nearby Lake Michigan shoreline, named by Condé Nast Traveler as one of the best 25 in the world.
Residents also enjoy Comstock Park's close proximity to Grand Rapids, the second-largest city in the state. During the summer, Grand Rapids draws visitors from all over to take part in ArtPrize, a contest that allows community members to judge pieces of art scattered around the city. Year-round, residents take in the area's history and culture at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, Grand Rapids Art Museum and the Grand Rapids Children's Museum. The community also takes part in many events hosted on Grand Valley State University campus, which is just outside of the city.
