New Center Detroit is a fantastic district that is home to both commercial and residential buildings. Lying just three miles north of downtown, the area has a modern feel in a historic setting. The district was designed specifically to offer convenient access to outlying areas and Detroit proper.
Because of its convenient design, the neighborhood is a popular one. Walk down the streets and you are surrounded by modern buildings standing next to historic architecture. This section of Detroit has an eclectic feel that its residents love.
Apartments in New Center Detroit
Thanks to its proximity to downtown and other outlying areas, New Center is a fantastic place to rent an apartment. You will pay around $700 a month for rent in this neighborhood. Typical amenities include Internet access, secured entry, carpeting, and appliances.
New Center Entertainment & Dining
In the New District neighborhood itself, you will find plenty of opportunities to eat and drink. From lounges to cafes, this small district has something for everyone. Drive into Detroit and you will be granted access to some of the most amazing entertainment venues in Michigan.
One of the most popular places to visit is the Motown Museum. Detroit is known for its place in music history, and the museum has an outstanding collection of memorabilia depicting the city’s place in the magic of rhythm and blues.
Pet Friendly New Center Apartments
It can be difficult to find apartments in New District Detroit that allow pets, but it can be done! If you want to live in this unique district with your animal companion, it is strongly recommended that you speak to the complex manager regarding the allowance of pets. Belle Isle Park is the sole dog-friendly park in the city proper, and there are only a handful of restaurants that will welcome your pet.
Commuting From New Center
Although Detroit has an extensive public transit system, there are no bus stops located in this district. Most people that live in the neighborhood own at least one vehicle with which to get back and forth. Luckily, if you don’t have a car, you are surrounded by several hospitals, fast food restaurants, and small shops.
For those residents who rent apartments and do have a car, New Center offers easy access to main road, highways and freeways. You can jump on route 10, the Edsel Ford Freeway, or the Jeffries Freeway with little effort.
New Center Schools
There are 10 schools in or within one mile of New Center. All schools are public and most are operated under the umbrella of the Detroit Public School District. Unfortunately, only one of these schools, Thirkell Elementary School, has been rated as meeting national standards.
Parents have their choice of charter schools in Detroit. Two of the available schools have been rated a seven or higher. These are Martin Luther King, Jr. Education Center Academy and Ross-Hill Academy-Elementary. Both of these charter schools enroll students in kindergarten through the eighth grade. The only high-rating private school in the area is Tawheed Center of Detroit School for children in grades kindergarten through seventh.
