Livonia, MI, is a suburb of Detroit that grew in the post World War II era. The layout of the neighborhoods is traditional, with rows of houses arranged in a grid pattern. This community was founded in 1835 by pioneers who settled in this new part of what would soon become the state of Michigan. The area attracted more settlers when the Detroit, Lansing and Northern Railroad came to town. The city was incorporated in 1950. Higher education, public schools and an extensive parks and recreation system are the pride and joy of the city's residents.
Today, Livonia's population is approximately 95,586, which is a drop of about 2 percent since the 2010 census. It's the ninth largest municipality in Michigan. Many neighborhoods in the community have gone through recent redevelopment, which has resulted in retail and dining centers that attract new people into the city.
If you enjoy sports, you'll find plenty of opportunities to both play and watch games near the place you rent. The city's hockey association is the largest in the state. The town also has a large public soccer league with over 1,300 members. A short drive away from the city, you can watch professional sports played by the Detroit Pistons, Red Wings, Lions or Tigers.

Transportation in the city is done primarily by car. The Detroit Department of Transportation offers limited public transportation via bus routes in the area that go to and from downtown Detroit.
