Living in Taylor, MI

When residents of Ecorse Township found they lived too far away to participate in local affairs, they decided to break off and form their own community in 1847, originally called Taylor Township. Taylor was named for Zachary Taylor, an 1840s military hero and the country's 12th president.

The area relied primarily on agriculture, but it grew over the years. In 1968, it was finally incorporated as a city. Once it achieved incorporation, the community experienced significant new development. Agriculture gave way to industry, retail and new neighborhoods.

Taylor kept expanding and improving throughout the 2000s. New shopping districts, municipal expansion and the construction of more residential areas increased Taylor's appeal. Today, Taylor is home to 62,489 residents and continues to strive for positive growth within the city.

Taylor Attractions and Special Events

One of city's largest attractions is the Taylor Conservatory and Botanical Garden. Not only is this the perfect place to relax, have fun with kids, or just enjoy nature, but the conservatory and garden also hosts frequent events for community members. During the summer months, enjoy the Summer Concert Series. Weekly concerts give residents the opportunity to listen to some new music while surrounded by vivid plant life. Those who want to get fit while relaxing in the conservatory can participate in Yoga on the Terrace during the summer. This free offering allows residents to clear their minds and stretch their muscles in one of the most beautiful spots in the conservatory.
